Juice of the Day: The Best of Both Worlds

So, I have been having a different juice every day. Sometimes I have two juices in a day. It can be an expensive habit (about $5 a cup) but it is worth it to me. Especially since I am not spending that money on food or other drinks. Today's juice was called The Best of Both Worlds. I wasn't really impressed with it and had to force it down and psyche myself out so I wouldn't gag. It was OK as long as I drank it while it was still cold. It had kale and other greens with fruits like mango and it might have had a little ginger. So far my favorite juice has been a green apple and ginger juice. Also, there is one a guy made that had parsley (and I hate parsley) with fruit juices. It was actually good. I am easing my way into the green juices. Tomorrow I probably will not get a juice unless I stop at the juice bar near my apartment on the way home. I think I have hit every juice bar in Harlem at this point. Some are better than others. After I got my juice I headed to get my ...

Counting down to spring

Only a couple of days left before I start my spring vacation! Woo hoo! No plans to travel anywhere. I think I am going to take advantage of my passport and go some where I can earn a stamp in the summer. People have been pissing me off. I am in need of some "me" time. Spring is my season.

Train

Image
I forgot how relaxing it can be to ride the train. I am heading back to New York on the Amtrak now as the dark sky envelopes us. Just a few days away can make all the difference. I slept horribly the night before I left. We partied all of Saturday night then ended the night at Ben's being jostled around in the line that snaked around the tight diner. And while I am trying to chance my diet, that dog was so good! Believe the hype! Sunday we did nothing and today we pretty much did nothing as well. Actually we did a drive by of the M.L.K. memorial. Will post pics after I upload them. Having free wi-fi on the train is awesome!  I'll have to push through until President's Day. Might try to take a day trip somewhere else. Here's to hoping things start to improve!

Highlights of the trip to D.C.

After a fire alarm went off in my friend's building (pictured left) while I was in the shower after a night of too much drinking and dancing, we evacuated into the cold. We landed at the Steak n Egg Kitchen which is perfect for curing a hang over with greasy American food. Finally ate at Busboys & Poets. Food was pretty good. I got the Shrimp & Grits. I was stuff! The vibe was interesting. Unfortunately, I was seated near a woman with a stank attitude and the next table over, two girls who insisted on making everyone near them part of their conversation. Service was also lackluster. I would definitely go back for the food with a group of people. They seriously need to open one in Harlem! But not on 125th Street! Dinner at Masala Art Indian Restaurant was absolutely delicious! The samosas were outstanding with a delicious blend of spices. The chicken and rice pot we shared was yummy enough to lick the serving spoon.

Mister Sandman

Mister Sandman is just beating on my eyelids right now. Crazy thing is I just woke up a bit over an hour ago. I am about to go back to sleep soon as I finish this post. I fixed a simple dinner of clam chowder with corn. Not as good as the crab soup I had in Maryland, but it left me feeling very satiated. I have no patience for foolishness, so I have an Alfred Hitchcock movie playing. It was another unproductive day. I went online to research mattresses before I went bed shopping and got frustrated. Went through some papers, sent some follow up emails, washed the breakfast dishes then went to take a nap. Woke up groggy, but feeling better. Looked at my to do and was able to cross off one item. Tomorrow and Friday have to be more productive, by any means necessary. Sadly, we are expecting a hurricane to hit so hopefully that doesn't prevent me from doing what needs to be done. I am hoping I can get things situated at work Monday and Tuesday (no later than Wednesday) so I can have ...

Stormy Sunday

Didn't fall asleep until late last night/early this morning. Woke up late and went back to sleep. Woke to hear a storm outside. It's muggy which means I have no desire to head out today. I finally started moving around 1-ish and I am still contemplating going back to bed as I'm not feeling 100%. I probably need to go out and score a shot of wheat grass juice to stabilize my system. My neighbor across the hall has gas. She has just been cooking away. I don't know how I missed getting my gas reconnected. I need to call Con Ed and see if they can turn it on tomorrow. Interestingly enough I hadn't been cooking on the stove much. I usually don't in the summer because it's just too hot. Coincidentally, just as this water main situation happened I was going to start cooking again. One good thing about this situation is that I was able to clean under my stove since the Con Ed guy pulled it out to do something. I thought it might as simple as turning the red knob b...

Why I can't rise as a person

First day of vacation and I am watching Kathy Lee and Hoda. I've got to do better!

Breathe a sigh of relief

I finally dragged into the job to finish up the loose ends today. Actually it didn't take more than a few hours to knock everything out. I am officially free...well, other than trying to hire a new assistant. Feel like I am in good shape otherwise. Definitely in better shape than I was last year this time. Trying to decide if I am going to try to do a switcharoo on "The one who broke my heart" TOWBMH. I might be able to get him to cat and car sit while I take an out of town vacation! Thinking, thinking, thinking... Now my focus is on my personal business. Cleaning, organizing, redecorating, getting a physical, finding a dentist, getting a passport, taking tests, getting the car maintained, etc, etc. etc... Yes folks, the fun just never seems to end!

Worn Down

I am so tired! I worked for 6 hours until I couldn't stand up anymore. I'll have to tie up the loose ends on Monday. Bah!

Dear Father...

Happy Father's Day to any dads who land upon my long forgotten blog. I had a stressful week, but I will come out on the other side as always.  Most of the stress was work related and while I don't like to vent about work on here, I feel like I need an outlet for my frustrations. I have been holding it in and then it always comes out in the most inappropriate times and ways. Please be patient with me, God is not through with me yet. I start vacation next week. Yay!  I planned to travel and possible move. Well, the devil quickly squashed those plans.  My student loans became due and I was threatened with have having my salary garnished if I didn't fork over nearly $1K a month! Extortion. It is crazy because you can have your credit card bills settled and negotiated, but your education expenses can cause you to be homeless. What is wrong with this world? I will never advise a person to take out student loans. If you can't afford to pay for your education yourself or get ...

Deliver me

This past week was horrible! I've spent the whole weekend trying to shake it, but I still feel tightness and tension in my brow and my eyes are lifeless. I have no real joy in my life. I still smile and laugh at times, but not often enough.   At the center of my discontentment is my environment. I need to get out of here! This apartment. This neighborhood. This job trajectory. I shouldn't say it because it seems ungrateful. I almost lost everything this past year. I am now finally getting stable and it seems like someone always wants to make life more complicated than it has to be. Can I live? Got damn! I do my best to live a righteous life. I mind my own business. Try to take care of my obligations and even try to help others when and if I can. Yet, it always seems that I am at battle with someone about bullshit. I just want to live a peaceful life. I am surrounded by people who thrive on drama. I have been seriously contemplating moving to another state where people are c...
