That's a Wrap Folks!

I t was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way--in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only. [ cont. ] 1) Was 2005 a good year for you? It was pretty decent. A lot of ups and downs but as bad as the downs were I've had worst in the past. 2) What was your favorite moment of the year? There were quite a few good moments this year, the first being bringing in the New Year with my own family for the first time in years and the last being spendin...

The Shorter Version

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who comes through here, reads my blog and comments. Have a safe holiday and a very blessed new year. I will be checking on everyone in January. Here is the shorter version of the year end meme. I swiped it from her . My last meme jacking of the year (sniff). Naughty or Nice?

Image
You Are Rudolph Sweet and shy, you tend to be happiest when you're making someone else happy. Why You're Naughty: You sometimes stick that nose where it doesn't belong Why You're Nice: Christmas would be a sad affair without you! Which of Santa's Reindeer Are You?

You know are from San Francisco When...

I don't necessarily agree with all these but some are pretty funny..... You Know You're From San Francisco When... You take a bus and are shocked that 2 people are carrying on a conversation in English. Someone says TENDERLOIN - you don't think of steak. You never bother looking at the MUNI line schedule because you know the drivers have never seen it. A really great parking space can move you to tears. You know that anyone wearing shorts in July must be visiting from Ohio. You assume every company offers domestic partner benefits. Your boss runs in "The Bay to Breakers"....and it's not the first time you have seen him/her nude. You are thinking of taking an adult class but you can't decide between yoga, aroma therapy, conversational mandarin or a building your own web site class. You haven't been to Fisherman's Wharf since the first month you moved to SF and you couldn't figure out how to drive to Coit Tower if your life depended on it. You we...

Day Three - A.K.A. This Isht is Getting Old Now

Image
A lthough I still support the union, I am annoyed that they are not making any progress as we continue to have below freezing temps and no public transportation throughout most of the city. Each day I wake and listen for the roar of motor coach engines on the busy streets below. No such luck. I guess it was cute at first, novel even, but the people in my neighborhood have been taking it in stride - literally. Yesterday on the walk home I overheard an MTA worker complaining about the loss of pay and his buddy was offering words of encouragement that it will pay off in the long run and we are all fighting for them. That was nice. You could tell the morale of the MTA worker was very low at that point. T his morning, people's patience was really being tested. For the soldiers who have been trudging out in the cold for their third day of transportation hell, it was about to be on this morning at Fordham Station. Contrary to popular belief, New Yorkers will exhibit patience - up to a cer...

Holiday Drinks

Image
Upon the ravings of certain bloggers who shall remain nameless, I stepped foot into the Star.bucks on 125 the other week to try their holiday selection of hot beverages. I tried the Pumpkin Spice Latte and sadly was quite disappointed with it. As a matter of fact, I drank about half and threw away the rest. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who wasn't impressed with their concoction of milk, cafe and spices. The following piece was in The Village Voice. Bites Coffee Abuse Starbucks Christmas Lattes: What the hell? by Nina Lalli December 16th, 2005 6:32 PM What is coffee supposed to taste like? photo: Nina Lalli I've only tasted hazlenut coffee by accident. America's flavored coffee movement, which initially seemed like a fad that would quickly disappear, has really passed me by. I'm starting to feel like one of those kids who grew up without TV, and doesn't understand references to Three's Company or Who...

MTA Transit Strike - Day Two

Image
I t is amazing how quiet it has been around here since the buses have been parked and locked away due to the transit strike. Buses contribute to an enormous amount of noise pollution in this city. Apparently the union and the City have reached an impasse . The union is being fined up the yin-yang but they are standing firm. I don't blame them. Our union also threatened to strike this year but we averted it in the 11th hour. I didn't want to strike but if you have a message to send out and the cats who are running things aren't trying to hear you because you are just peon in their eyes, then you've gotta' take some action to get their attention. I still don't think the big wigs are taking the union seriously, but after they get tired of walking across the cold-arse bridge, they'll get it. Hang in there New York . A s a funny little aside, yesterday evening I went to the store and asked the clerk to give me 4 quarters as change with my purchase. He asked ...
