All shook up!
I was just saying the other day that New York is overdue for an earthquake and if it happens New York wouldn't be prepared because the buildings and gas lines are so old and many are not retrofitted. Well, we got hit with an earthquake today. The Super and Con Ed had just left my apartment after finally giving me my gas back. I woke up irritated today for some reason and the Super pissed me off more when he yelled at me, "why didn't contact the management about your gas." I don't like being spoken to that way. No hello, no good morning...just yelling at me. I had been so patient waiting for someone to come turn my gas back on and I get screamed on? Besides, it wasn't a building issue it was a Con Ed issue as far as I knew. Why didn't he come to check to make sure everyone had working gas? He is such an ass!
So, they left and I started putting things back in the kitchen. I had just sat down at the computer to start this blog post and it sounded like someone was rattling my door. I walked to the door and opened it to look out. It was a different rattling from when the wind is strong during a storm. It sounded as if someone had their hand on the handle and was jiggling it. No one was there, but I heard some banging type noises so I thought it was someone in the building banging something. I went back in and the door wasn't rattling anymore. I thought nothing else of it, but in the back of my mind I thought back to what I "predicted" the other day in relation to the gas lines and I got shaken up. When I checked Facebook people down in DC were saying they felt an earthquake. Then other people on my timeline in different places said they felt an earthquake. Then I knew I wasn't crazy!
Even though I grew up with earthquakes (mostly I slept through them!) this shook me up because I know buildings in New York are poorly constructed in comparison to buildings in California. I am thankful that we are all safe and sound. I pray each night for God to keep us safe and so far He has heard my prayers.
This has been a very strange day. I was going to try to go out to take care of my errands today, but I think I will just stay put today. I'm a bit nervous and on edge and don't like to interact when I feel this way. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day.
So, now the news is stuck on getting everyone's reactions to what is considered a relatively small earthquake. I think I will just take a nap and relax for the rest of the day. This day is for the birds!
